Our History

Seasoned by Family, Shaped by the Ozarks
Spike and Katherine Cavender chose to build their life in the Ozark Mountains because it felt like home, a place shaped by open water, wooded hills, and the simple joy of being outdoors. With fishing spots like Bull Shoals Lake, the Buffalo National River, the Kings River, and the White River just down the road, Spike knew it was the perfect place to raise their son, Steve, and put down real roots. After years of chasing big ideas and running his own businesses, he finally decided to share what friends and family had been asking for all along, the “secret” Greek seasoning he had been making for years, turning a personal tradition into something others could bring to their own tables.
True to the Recipe
In May of 1988, S-C Seasoning Company moved to our current home on Industrial Park Road in Harrison, Arkansas, a big step forward that gave us room to grow while staying rooted in the Ozarks we love. Over the years, we have expanded the facility by an additional 5,000 square feet and continued investing in updated machines and improved production lines so we can be more efficient, more consistent, and better equipped to meet demand. But through every upgrade and every expansion, we have protected what matters most: the flavor. We have not changed the ingredients that make Cavender’s Greek Seasoning so delicious, because we believe the best growth is the kind that honors your original recipe. It is the same trusted blend, made with the same care, now crafted with even more capability behind it so we can keep serving families everywhere for generations to come.
From One Kitchen to Millions
S-C Seasoning Company, Inc. is a family-owned and managed manufacturing company based in the Ozark Mountains of Harrison, Arkansas, where Cavender’s began as an “unusual” spice blend Spike and Steve Cavender mixed and shared with family and friends for years. As requests grew, Cavender’s All-Purpose Greek Seasoning became a widely loved “secret ingredient,” and in 1991 the company added Cavender’s Salt-Free Greek Seasoning in response to longtime customer requests. Today, the original recipe is still made by the third generation of the Cavender family alongside dedicated longtime employees, and what started as a meat seasoning has grown for over 50 years thanks to creative uses and recipe ideas shared from one kitchen to another.
Coming Home to the Family Business
Lance and Cara both completed college degrees at the University of Arkansas. After several years of outside work experience, Steve made the offer for the 3rd generation to come back with their young families and work in the company.
The Fourth Generation Steps Forward
After completing their college degrees at the University of Arkansas, and other outside work experiences, our 4th generation made their way back to Harrison, Arkansas. And the rest is history!
